Ici… Ou Là-Bas

Synopsis

Un européen se perd en Asie au côté de sa femme, vietnamienne mais devenue, par son exil, étrangère dans son propre pays. En l’attendant pour prendre le petit déjeuner, il s’invente un monde dont il ne connaît pas la langue. Il s’imagine aller en pleine mer, se noyer, revenir auprès de sa femme, réanimant les ancêtres de celle-ci, l’obser- vant dans la crainte de sa disparition. Il recherche un corps parfait pour remplacer celui de sa femme, mais pas sa tête… Une histoire d’un surréalisme minimal, veiné d’une ironie clownesque qui, dans son évidente et constante ingénuité, réussit à mettre de bonne humeur. While travelling with his wife, a European man lands in Asia. Despite her Vietnamese background, she has become a stranger in her own country after having lived in exile. While waiting for his wife at breakfast one morning, the man drifts off into another world where he cannot understand the language. He sees himself being put far out to sea, drowning and returning to his wife. At the same time, he resurrects her ancestors in his mind and observes her as she fears his disappearance. The man concocts his own film, contriving a perfect body for his wife except for her head.
