Synopsis

En Géorgie, un casting est lancé. De jeunes gens défilent, intimidés, endimanchés ou cabotins. Ils rêvent de faire du cinéma. Ils rêvent aussi d’autres choses, d’ailleurs, de demain et c’est sur ce thème que la cinéaste va les questionner. Organiser un casting a permis à Tinatin Gurchiani d’aller à la rencontre de la jeunesse géorgienne : ce qui n’était jusque là qu’un projet fictif de tournage se transforme alors en véritable film. Au gré des rencontres, certains liens se tissent, et le film lui-même se met à vagabonder. Les personnages se dévoilent alors dans la réalité de leurs vies, offrant une nouvelle perspective aux paroles qu’ils avaient choisies pour se présenter devant la caméra. Un portrait tout en délicatesse d’un pays et de sa jeunesse.

In Geogia a filmmaker launches a casting call. The documentary is built from those auditions and around those who came to share their stories. Some want be movie stars and see the film as a means to that end; others want to tell their personal story. The most pro- mising ones she even followed out of the audition rooms and into their homes. The young peo- ple standing in front of the came- ra remain shy and curious as they share their stories and dreams with us. The process of filmmaking becomes a welcome vehicle for them to escape their realities for a moment. Tinatin Gurchiani intuitively penetrates individual lives to conjure a richly layered, indelible portrait of a society, brilliantly becoming more than the sum of its parts. These raw interviews unfold seamlessly into cinematic slivers of a country and its youth.
