Alors qu’en France nous avons célébré les 40 ans de la loi Simone Veil, le droit à l’avortement n’est toujours pas garanti partout en Europe. En Irlande, l’avortement est passible de quatorze années d’emprisonnement, sauf en cas de danger pour la vie de la femme. Chaque année, des milliers d’Irlandaises sont donccontraintes d’aller au Royaume-Uni. Quand ils parlent d’elles, leurs compatriotes disent qu’elles « prennent le bateau ». Gillian, Vanessa, Melisa, Gerard et Gaye nous racontent un voyage encore tabou.
Whereas France is about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of abortion legalization, the right to abortion is still not guaranteed throughout Europe. In Ireland, abortion is liable of fourteen years of imprisonment and is permitted only if the woman’s life is at risk. Every year, thousands of women travel from Ireland to the UK to access abortion services. To talk about them, people often say they “take the boat”.
